Following two highly successful graduate and apprenticeship open days, Grainger & Worrall, has announced a long-term strategic commitment to trainee recruitment.
Launched in line with National Apprenticeship Week (3-7 March 2014), the five-year programme will effectively double the business’ engineering team, appointing a minimum of four new graduates and eight apprentices annually.
As well as delivering real-world experience and expert training, the scheme will provide candidates with an opportunity to engage with the development of a wide variation of challenging and complex cast components. The launch of this scheme follows on the company’s multi-million pound investment in its UK facilities, which has further increased both engineering and production capacity, enabling the continued provision of world-class customer solutions.

“Our team plays an instrumental role in the design and supply of powertrain components for the world’s most desirable vehicles. We are a foundry, so castings are central to what we do, but as a full-service supplier, our trainees have the unique opportunity to be involved in the early concept work all the way to finished machined parts and assembly. With all these processes in house, the ability to learn and gain vital hands-on knowledge is tremendous.
“It is demanding work, and the stakes could not be higher when, for example, you are working to deliver another world championship motorsport title, but also highly rewarding. We’re committed to pushing these boundaries and continuously progressing technologies.
“Apprentice and graduate programmes are not new to Grainger & Worrall. Indeed, some of our longest servicing and senior managers originally joined on such schemes. Nonetheless, being at the forefront of what we do necessitates the continuous development of our staff. We cannot simply recruit to fulfill current needs – we must develop talented individuals into future leaders.
“Our graduate and apprenticeship open days, which both took place last month, demonstrated huge interest in the high-precision engineering sector and saw nearly 50 individuals visit our main site to find out more about Grainger & Worrall. We’re committed to providing opportunities for young engineers and made the decision to introduce a strategic development programme – not just to boost our staff force in the short-term, but as part of our ongoing business plans.”
Grainger & Worrall’s latest announcement follows a series of successes for the UK firm. In November, the Shropshire-based business won the prestigious Cast Metal Federations’s (CMF) 2013 UK Component of the Year Award for its innovative Formula 1 cylinder head manufacturing expertise.
